The first ever Gunnison Sage-grouse Festival will be on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the Fred R. Field Heritage Center.  Start the event off with a 5k run/walk and competitive 10K run hosted by Gunnison Trails.  Booths and interactive activities will feature information about the Gunnison Sage-grouse, where it lives and ways we can help conserve the species.  Bring your family and friends to learn more about our special bird and share your experiences, stories and joy for our valley’s signature bird.

The Third Gunnison Sage-grouse Summit, “Lifestyles and Livelihoods ~ Everyone Plays a Role”, is scheduled to start the evening of Monday, April 11, with an array of presentations.  From Tuesday morning, April 12, through noon Wednesday, April 13, many diverse and complementary elements of species conservation will be highlighted.   Leaders in Gunnison Sage-grouse research will be sharing their discoveries, insights and research about this unique species.  Ongoing projects to help define the needs of the birds and ways to stabilize populations and enhance habitat are included in the presentation schedule.  The three-day Summit will also take place at the Fred R. Field Western Heritage Center, Gunnison, Colorado. Registration for the entire event (meals included) will be $50.00 or $25.00 for students with an ID.
